SOUTH CAROLINA | Bureau of Immigration, CHARLESTON, S. C., 1 21 et February. 1807. ) THE undersigned, having been Appointed Commissioner, bus been iiisiEucU-<l by his Excelleucy, Governor Orr, to organize lite Bureau ntlho earliett possible moment. In u few da\s Ajjonla will be appointed by the Governor to proceed to Europe, whose dut3* it will b?* i<> induce immigration to our State, to di*sim Date Kueli information n> lw? fiin.i them of lands for sale, or lease, and lo engngi- | such laborer;', mechanics, servants and oilier ! liolp, as may be desired by the inhaliitants of tha State. An AgeDt for the same object will pcrh>p* be sent to New York. It wou!d In; desirable that our people furnish this Bureau without delay with information how they deHire to be served, indicating the kiud of help they require, and the wage* which they arcwilling to pay ; or a description of the lands they liavo for sale or lease, and tlieir tern,8 and conditions. If combinations can be formed in the several Districts of the State for joint action, it would perhaps facilitate mutual operations ; nnd w hero arrangements can be made to advance part of the passage money of the laboring immigrants, by accepted orders to that effect, on any of the factor# or merchants of Cliarleston, it would no doubt greatly advance the result.. If the people that favor! tliia measure would mr>ct at their respective Court-Houses to consult and indicate their wante, this Bureau would take great pleasure in serving their interest to the best of its nbili ty. A puraphlet will be printed in the Severn! Kuropenn languages for distribution, describing the capacities and advantages of our soil, t-Iiuiute, productions, etc., in which many particulars thai are promptly furnished way be ndveitis?-d. The means at the disposal of the Bureau being strictly limited, the kind assisttance of the conductors of our public journals i? respectfully requested. JOHN A. WAGENER. Commissioner of Immigration.
