This country has furnished many soldiers to j Lincoln's army. The citizens here do not y treat us us did the citizens ol Nelson and _ many other counties of Kentucky. In my letters I have frequently spoken ot "Pike Roads." As there are vo Pike Roads in South Carolina I will mention how they are made. Stone, which is found in abundance in Tennessee and Kentucky ,, is broken in small p;eccs and put. over tlic road, making it perfectly hard during (he summer and winter. The I'ikes in Ken tucky are much bettei than those in Tennessee. In Kentucky the Pike works are graded much the same as our Tln'lroad-* are but here the stores are larger, ti e roadi lv are consequently rougher, and are not s< well graded. It is almost impossible t< travel over country roiul9 with vehicles du ring the winter.
