of the greater portion of our Company, who
hare been detailed as Picket Guard, at the
Eastern point of the Island. They left hereon
Friday last, with three day's rations and will
return to-day. The remainder of ue, consisting
of 20 or 80 persons, who were performing
guard duty here, at the time, were directed to
remain, and under the charge of Lieut. WuiT?t
to proteot the Quarters until the return of the
Company. We have constant communication
with our comrade*, nn?l learn that they are
?|-y comfortably situated, being provided with
good tents, and find the duties of the Camp less
onorous than whilst here.
It is very likely that we will be drdered to
Morris Island in a few days. Col. Gregg, with
six companies of the Regiment is now stationed
there, aud he is very anxious that his Commaud
should be again re-united. We are so
. very pleasantly situated here, that we anticipate
anything else than benefit from the
change and would bid adieu to our present
quarters, with considerable reluctance. Obedience,
however, is the first duty of the soldier,
and we will cheerfully respond to tlie commands
of our superiors. The Quarters'on Morris
and said to he more comfortable than wo
were at first led to suppose, and tiie troops nre

The uniform will consist of a grey truck and

Regiment. The ordinary fati.ue dress of the (
Abbeville Company, has been a stout woolen
jacket which we hail made for us in CharlfS |
too. Our red flannel coals which wo cherish
the more highly from the fact of being m?de
by fair fingeri in Abbeville, and associated with
our first entrance into the military life, we renerve

They are yet in a good s'ate of preservation,
and will no doubt be kept by many ardent ,

As you may image, we are all politician* in

the shifting phases of the political uppecl. We
liave perhaps the same opportunities of form- '
ing a correct opinion tliat yo>4 have, and per- ,
hmp? even a greater interest in the result of our ,
reflections?we are away.from home and anx ]
iou* to raturu. It is" amusing to ohserve the
diversity of opinion which prevails among our
eager speculators. One takes oo'insel from
liis fears, and anticipates interminable strife
and endless bloodshed ; another, to wliom perhaps
the "wish is tlie father of the thought,''
confidently predicts a speedy settlement of
our trouble*, and the discharge of bur Regiment
in a few weeks. This much seems to be probable,
thai if we are to have do war, our places
will I e supplied by the Regulars, who are not*
rapidly tnlisting. They are said to be enlisted
at the rate of CO per*J*y, and will thus make
up the desired complement.
We are geneiaily in excellent health, and
the most of us &?>*! much more robust tlmn
when w? left home,
