Easter Services. .
Services were held in the Episcopal
church Good Friday and Easter Sunday. |
The music selected was most excellent,
especially on Easter and was rendered
very effestively. For Easter, the church
was handsomely and gracefully decorated
with flowers, vines and roses. An elegant
and tasteful cross of white flowers
within the chancel heightened the beauty
of the whole. Much credit is due to i
the ladies and gentlemen who were in
stumental in so successfully adorning the <
church. i

The body of a colored man named Oliver
Bell was di.covered in a mil! dam (

by the disappearance of the man

of the body. Bell bad been accused of

Numerous tenders of the bills of
the bank of the state have been made to
couuty treasurers for taxes, which, of ,

eause why a writ of mandamus should
not issue to compel theiu to receive the ,
bills for taxes. The Port Royal railroad
is among those tendering bill- of the bank
for taxes.

Steamers at Tort ltoyul.
The steamship Jamaican, Capt. Watsan,
of the West India and Pacific S. S.
Co., came to the railroad dock for coal on
Tuesday tuoruing. Her regular trip is
from Liverpool to Port au Prince,. Kingston,
Vera Cruz, Tauipieo, liruzos. New ,
Orleans aud theuce to Liverpool. This (
line has heretofore coaled at Norfolk hut
the Jamaiuan was unusually short of coal
this trip, having beeu detained lour days
ou the bar at New Orleans. At Vera
Cruz she broke her rudder shaft, and is
making her home trip with a temporary
. stearing gear. She has on board 4,000
talea of cotton.
