A Perilous Voyage.
The old brig, Waltham which left
here on Sunday. Dec. 28, for Cliarlestou,
, has at last been heard from.
Very little had been done to reni?i
. der her seaworthy. one u?u
ballast in and her rigging was tied up, in
places where it had been cut and broken,
with half inch rope. The holes in her
hull were jtopped up with pcices of old
sail. Her crew of four men arc said to
have been provisioned with ten pounds
of crackers and two pounds of cheese.
There was neither beds, bedding, stove
nor fuel aboard. A craft worse fitted
cever sailed the stormy, wintry seas.
After passing the light-ship the wind i
came out strong from the north-east, and
the old brig had not a pound of ballast
and as her rigging was hardly to be
nisUd. she went off to southward. She '
crossed the gulf stream, wheu the wind
changed and she came back on to this
coast, Meantime the grub got very i
scarce on board. A British brig was i
spoken and aid requested, but she re- j
fused to stop. On Monday last the te- 1
ceived assistance from a passing steamer i
*r and subsequently made her way into St. 1
Helena sound. She will take advantage (
of the first favorable wind to get into j
Charleston.
Echard by request will remain
till the first of next week.
De?t~ The down freight train ran over a
cow near Sheldon last Saturday. Several
cars were thrown off and the road
was torn up for a hundred yards. Nobody
hurt.

was celebrated in the usual stylo by the
colored people of Beaufort. The military j

The fire company and tiie hook and ladder
