We have this moment ac!journe<j
finally afcer four days close work,
and I hasten to make known to you_
the result of our deliberations. ?
We have agreed (as the representa
tives of the State Banks) with the
Directors of the Rational Pnnk,
to resume specie payments on the 20th.
ir.stant . under certain conditions :
a id with the aid and facilities* which
they are willing to afford us. ? It
will only remain (ox the respective
banks of N. York, Richmond, Bal
timore, and this place, to sanction
uiir acts* and the. Secretary of the~
Ti easury, that pai t of our agree
ment in relation to the government
deposits, to carry this very impor
tant measure into complete effect.
No doubt i$ entertained here on
the subject, and the most unquali
fied and general approbation _pf the
happy termination of our labours is
manifested by the people^ of Phila
delphia.

SPECIE PAYMENTS.
We*|earn, by a gentleman di
rt- cc front Philadelphia, that . the
conmiicccof Delegate*, from the
Banks of New York, Philadelphia
anct Virginia, which lately met in
r Philadelphia, have resolved to re
commend totheir respective Banks
to resume the payment of Specie
on the aorfiTof the present iponth.
If this salutary measure be adopted,
by the banks above mentioned,
there i* no doubt the example will
be fallowed by all other banks
which are able to redeem their notes,
and thus at length relieve the com
munity from the long existing and
grevious oppression of an unequal
and depreciated medium.

A Spasnish frigate of 44 guns, as

naen,jg|ra& preparing to leave Cadiz
for Vital Cruz, Havana, and other
Spanish ports, and would be ready
to sail in a few days. .
Several Bueaos Ayres privateeis
were cruizing off Cadiz and Ma
laga. They had rhade great havoc
among the Spanish 'homeward
bound merchantmen. . having cap*
tured about 19 sail during the month
of November.
The brave Dutch Admiral Van
Tromprwho was a large heavy man,
was challenged by a r slim French
officer* We are not upon emial
terms with rapiers, (said Van
Tromp) ; but call upon me to-mor
row mornings and I will adjust the
affair better. When the French
man called, he found the Dutch
admiral amide a barrel of gunpow
der* ? "There is room enough for
you, (said Van Tromp J at Che o
ther end of the barrel j sit down ;
there is the match $ as you are the
challenger, give fire." The French
rtrtn was thunderstruck at this tcr
i(jj|e mode tit fighting $ bui as the
Admiral told him he would fight
in no othfcr way, terms of accom
modation ensued.

three miles above Camden, suppose they
were making for Chesntit's F?frry, as they
were brought that way last fall from the
state of Kentucky. The abovfc reward and
all reasonable expences will be given to
any person who wilt deliver the said hor
ses to the subscriber, or to Mr. 8hannon or
