We are sorry to learn from unquestion
able authority, that ,4^ at, distress prevails
in many parishes .throughout tfit^ pi of >i>cy
frQm a scarcity of food. Ikeadlt#r?df Mi^k
is the common food of the poor classes at
this season the year ; but many ofahero
have no bread $ they support a misei able
existence, by boiling wild hc>l>s of differ
ent sorts, which they cat with , their , milk
j^appy those who even get milk, and havt
not sacrrfictrd this resource to previous
pressing wants 1 a succession of bad crops
but particularly the frosts of last August
and oepiember have reduced the country to
this unfortunate situation. The piomise
at present is gobd notwithstanding the late
ness of the spring ; btit the danger is fai
from being: passed. Flour has somewhat
fallen in price both in tins place and Mon
real, but speculators will no doubt occa?
sion frequent fluctuations.

j The vast emigration causes con
