G?u?ral Grant s Hew Cabinet.
Tb? announce-tent or the new Cabinet wll1

Ve know very little of the gentlemen named,

following (ketch ?. the Utinbihl ol the Cabinet:
Mr. Klibu B. Wasbburnc, of Illinois, the
new Secretary ?r State, was born In Maine, in
1816, served an apprenticeship in a printing
office, studied law In Howard University, and, ,
removing to the West, practiced"!** at (latetoa,

between President Grant and tba veteran
Congressmen, who baa (or soma tltno been reJfnrdod

Mr. A. T. Stewart, tba dry goods millionaire,

the Treasury Department, la new to political
life. A Scotchman by birtb, he began his
career in a very bumble position, and working
his way up by integrity, resolution and
self-denial, now able to count his property
by tens of millions of dollars. Mr. Stewart,
We believe, has never been guilty of a generous
-notion, being as remsrkable for his inflexibility
in exacting tbe last farthing which is his
?iaa as fur his astonishing commercial success.
As an executive and administrative officer ho

General Schofield, aa was Intimated by Genwrel

Mr. Adolphe K. Boric, of I'ennsylvtnia tbe

Emigration to the South.
Wa. receive almost every day Inquiries
about Southern lands from Northern farm

would suit one would not suit all. We are
glad to perceive that the Southern railroad
companies bare combined lo facilitate
tho diffusion of Information respecting
these millions of rich acre* which await
the baud of industry, and to diffuse it, too,
in the only way which can he of much
practical use, namely, by enabling farmers
to go and spy out the lead for themsslvra.
A convention of officers, representing between
