Cawpkx.?A cruel murder was ii.dieted
on a colored infant, about fifteen months
old, by lis nurse, at the Fork plantation of
Oolontl W, J. Reynolds, of this District^ or
Monday last On Tuesday, J. A. Schrock,
35*q., acting Coroner, empanneled a jury,
and proceeded to the plnutation, and held
an inquest over the body, at which the following
facts wore elicited : The mother
htd guns to work in a field a short diatanee
frrnt the house, leaving the child in charge
?f Morris Corbitt, its nurss; afier an hour's
abset.co, Morris came to her, and npon being
questioned stated that the child was nt
the house alone. The mother left Morris
and immediately went in aearch of her
child, but was unsuccessful. Morris then
raid that the child had fallen into the fire,
aud that ha had 1 uried it near the house
and pointed out the a, ct. The body was
taken up, but very little signa of burning
could be diecoverrd. A wound waa found
near lha right eye, which Morris acknoa 1
edged he inflated with the spade with
which he dug the hole. He said that after
burying it, the child attempted to rise, hut
alter the Mows it remained quiet Die
verdict of the jurj was that the child came

of the resolutions of commendation, though
