The Currency. . -_
The condition of the finsneOs of our
country now demand our most earnest
consideration. This is our weak point.
It is not that the currency is regardeduosouud,
but lire wl. le country suffers
fr&m a plethora. Men who counted
their purses formerly by tons, now
enumerate their- rolls by hundreds and
thousands, for which tliev can find no
investment. ' Money is so abundent, that
property does' not seek exchange; and
pi iocs, consequently, are correspondingly
inflated. Instead of iseving paper
money- enough merely to increase the
circulating medium sufficiently to meet
the increased demand caused by the
larger internal transactions of the war,
and stopping at that'point, the Governrosnt
ima gone on issuing to meet its
engagement* withwii suiting In any^-? .
The value of the currency continues to
decrease,'and prices to rise correspond*
