Ilis con?ssions certainly were of a startling taracter, and demanded prompt action ?and if any unpleasant excitement or jiny momentary injustice to individals urew out of it?let it all he ascribed to the peculiar circumstances and times in ahich we live. The negro is still in jail, and it is possible that real and important facts may yet transpire as the result of his arrest., That- he is a shrewd and conMimate villain, there cannot bo the liadow of a doubt; and wo sincerely hope that those with whom ho is probably m league, and who have corrupted and ruined him, may yet be discovered and brought to justice. Tn consequence of the roughness of the weal her, the boat failed to reach Easton until it was late in the afternoon. Mr. Yancev immediately addrcsed the vast multitude, holding them spell bound by his eloquence for two hours. llis defence of himself against the charges of disunionism was satisfactory to his friends. lie exposed frcesoilisin in all its nakedness, and alleged that Mr. Bell was tinctured with frcesoilnm. Ilia dissection of Douglas' squatter' sovereignty was merciless, holding it up to utter contempt ; besides, he vigorously attacked Lincoln and Seward's destructive doctiines. He endeavored to show that Breckinridge was really the only Union candidate in tho field, and said that, without the Constitution, the Union was valueless. lie was nnteservedlv in favor of the Constitation and the Union.
