Mimkd Ilia Jvmp.?Our fii*t.d V. L. of
Chamebere, tells a capital little story vf a Dr.
Somebody, resident in Columbus, Georgia :
The Doctor had been to a champagne
frolic and came home, late at night, ** am light
as a tick." Ilis wife had gona to bed And
the doctor jindres.*ed, and stood before the
/ fire en chemise, enjoying its comfortable
warmth. Ilia wife perceiving that he waa
lirriitlv " tlia viirxe for wpur." called him.
telling hiin lo'eotne to bed and not fall inio
the fire. few
" Stop, my dear," said tfie Doctor, wlio
was experiencing tbe sensation of universal
rotation eommun after a debauch?" stop,
my dear, I'll gel in as soon the bed gets
round here"
Presently he stretched out his arm* to
make a jump, and the bed seemed to whirl
by him. and be paused for another chance.
Again the bed swam round to him and he
made a tremendous plunge at it. but found
himself in a distant corner of the room in
stead of on feathers.
" Well, now, my dear," said lie, rubbing
his head, " did you eves see any thing whiz
by as quick! Just ns lief try to jump in a
rail car under full headway !"
80 the doctor commenced chasing the bed
"on all fores," and by dint of hard "coon
ing," and a little assistance from his wife,
he eventually succeeded in getting between
the sheets.? Wetumpka Whig.
It is said, with what truth I cannot say,
that last night, after the company had left
the VVhiio House, the President was sitting
alone in his study with a paper in his hand.
A person rapped at the door, and being in
vited. entered and said," Mr. President, I nrn
a spirit medium, and being directed by llie
spirit of Washington, I have come to advise
you that Gen. Washington desires that the
Statue shall not be erected on this ground."
President?"Say to the spiiit, 1 regiet I
did not know bis will sooner, but the programme
is mode up, and I cannot change it
now."
Medium, (after retiring for a few mo
ments) " The spirit of Washington protests
against this inauguration, because that, when
the Union is dissolved, the Abolitionists wil
take possession of this place, and the Gotli*
and Vanduls of tjic North will come down
in hoards and demolish it; and I demand
that it shall be removed to the Capital of
the Southern Republic, where it will sluud
and endure forever."
President?"Tell Gen. Washington. f??i
me, how deeply I regret that things have
gone so far that 1 cannot comply with hi*
request; hut the truth is, my speech is writ,
and I have to be delivered of it or bunt.

when he asked iliem his usual question, replied?
" Some of us know and some of us do not
