written, clear and concise, and will, ire hope, he
read with attention by all who take an Interest
in State affairs. We will notice briefly most of
the reooramendAtions contained is the message.

Some interest is always felt in the mode of
promulgating the President's message and the
report of the Secretory of the Treasury on the
state of the finances. It lias beeu generally the
case that, in spite of ail the precautious by .the
President, a few copies reach some favored or
" enterprising * p/>per, in advance of those sent
off to postmasters for distribution among the
newspapers at the moment when the message is
communicated to Congress. Such "mistakes"
will. It is hoped, be avoided hereafter, as tliey
are discreditable bath to the preaa and the government.
Hut as there is no probability that
the House will be organised for the month after
the first Mooday in JJecewiber, it will be unnecessary
and imprudent to distribute the message,
as usual, ao aa to be ready for promulgation on
that day. The President may follow the example
of Mr. Pierce, and read his message, for the infaratallAB

How ?o t*ia a Northkrn Dkmocuat.?Tlie following
ia Greeley's receipt:
" The infamous use made of Old Drown and
his tidal by the nro-Slavory politicians ought to
bring whatever intelligent honesty and fairness
remains in the Democratic ranks over to our
side. Thousands of voters have hitherto been
replied from our eattae by theory?'Oh, neither
party ia really anti slavery, and each ia as bad as
the other,' ft needs only at this crisis that we
eltould open his eves and he must realise that
this ia an error. You can tell a man's politics
by simply saying to him "Old Drown," A Democrat,
in the party sense, is one who regards Human
Slavery as right, wise and beniflcent, and
drives to strengthen and extend its power.?
Whoever regards it In a different, and opposite
light, is substantially a Republican. We are tariff
awd anti-tariff. Pacific Railroad and antiRailroad;
but slavery is the Aaron's rod that
esrsRowa up every other public question."
Tim Dayton (Ohio) Empire says: "A Glorious
Ticket," is the superscription with which
the Htate Journal, the organ of the Republican
central junto, publishes the following;
la ttpriugfteid, Mass., John Drown had one
vote fer Governor, and Lydia Maria Child one
for Lieutenant Governor.
We doubt not that if the Republican Convention,
In 1060, would nominate Ossawatomie

President, nigger though he be, the whole Republican
preee would aiao " shriek" for thai

They hnvo the following advantages over nil other*
: They have no pads to keep in order j no bobbin*
to wind ; no tangling or waste of thread ; no
oiling the thread or work ; no tool cheat .stocked
with wrenches, piicrs, pickers, Wtiici, Ac-., Ac.
The direction* arc simple, easily understood, and
easily explained, by the instructors. There is tin
taking apart ricatiing or roiling. They require
about ten drops of oil per day, when in constant use.
They make no more noise than a common clock,
even when tnnking fifteen hundred stitches per minute.
They run easy?-a child ten years old can
work litem to fall speed. They run fust or slow
without any danger of altcriug the length or tightness
of the stitch. They will ileut, Fill, Gather,
Bind, fiitob and Embroider, in so superior a manner
that we challenge comparison. The snmo Machine
will sow pavilion guasc and plantation goods.
The seam is as elastic as the most elastic fabric, and
will not break in washing or ironing. The same
Machine runs silk, linen thread and common spool
cotton with oqttul facility. The needle* are shorter,
and, therefore, stronger than any other high or low*
