For thti Regulation of the Market.
SECtlOIf I. Be H ordained by the Intendant
and Wardensof theTownof (irecnville in
Uounetl assembled, that from and after the pasatng
of tliia Ordinance, the front part of the \>a?o
roent atory of tho preaent market house shall he
kept, as heretofore, principally as a flesh market;
ana the i-*ar of theenme /or the sale of poultry,
fish, vegetables, butter, egss, Ac.
8sc. 2. lte it further ordained. That the stalls
in the front market shall be rented ut 10 dollars
per aunum, payable in advance.

whatever shall be compelled to bring any beef
or other fresh meat to the market hail so, but may
acll it in nny part of the town, and at any time,
except during market hours, by paying an annual
tax of ten dollars; and in c?m nny person
or persona shall bring and otter for sale any
beef or other fresh meat in the incorporate limits
of said town, such person or persons shnll
pay for each beef sixty-two cents, and for each
veal, shccpt hog or goat, twelve-and-a-half
cents; and, on refusal to pay the same, such beef,
veal, ehtep, hog or goat, or so much thereof a#
shall be sufficient for tlint purpose, shall be
taken by the marshal or clerk of the market
and sold, and the tax deducted from the proceeds
of snid sale, and the balance, if any,
refunded to the owuer of such beef, tool, sheep,
hog or goat, as the case may be ; nnd any person
who shall sell any beef or other fresh meat
without liceuse, shall be subject to a fiue of live
dollars.
Hue. 4. Bo it further ordained, That the market
house shall be kept open for the sale of produce
every dav. except Sundays, during the market
hours, which shall hereafter he in the mornling
from the 20th March to the 20th September
until V o'clook, A. M., and from the 20th September
to the 20th March until 10 o'clock, A. M.,
and on every Saturday night it shnll be lighted
up from dark until the ringing of the hell.
Skc. 6. Be it further ordained. That no person
shall be permitted to monopolize the stalls or
stands: Provided, That this shnll not be construed
to prohibit nny person occupying a stall
or stand from renting a vacant stall or stand,
when there shall be uo other applicant for the
same.
Skc. 6. Be it further ordained. That p<-r?ons
occupying stnnds or stalls, after having used the
same, shnll be required to have the same well
scoured or cleansed; nnd or. failure to do so,
shnll pay the sum of two dollars, and he prohibited
from occupying the tame until such fine
be paid.
Skc. 7. Be it further ordained. That nil articles
sold in the market house by weight, shall
be weighed in scales; and any person detected
selling in the market house any articles weighed
with steelyards or scnles unjustly balanced, or
using false weights, shall be fined not exceeding
twenty dollars; and any purchaser who shall
consider himself unjustly dealt w ith in regnrd
to weight, may make complaint thereof to the
Chief Marshal, or Clerk of the Market, who

the especial duty of the Chief Marshal, or Clerk I
of the Market, to seo that no such unsound or I

Sw. 9. Be it further ordained. That the superintendence
of the market house shall hereafter
devolve upon the Chief Marshal, whoso duty it
slinil be to have said market house lighted up
every Saturday night, as specified in section j
fourth, lie shall also enforce good order in and

correctness ; he shall have the market house 1
cleanly swept every day ; and shall enforce all j
the regulations embraced in this ordinance; and

of the town shall lie permitted to act as
clerk or book-keeper for any person or persons
selling any commodity whatever in the market
house, nor be interested, either directly or indirectly,
in any such sales.
Skc. 11, Bo it further ordained, That all
sums of money for stallage or fines provided for
in this ordinance shall Vie collected by the Chief
Marshal, and be accounted for and paid over by
hint to the Town Clerk, together with the names
of the persons from whom received, mice n

shall lie subject to the decision of the lntciidnnt,
or in his libsence ot any two or more of
the Wardens.
Sw. 12. Be it further ordained. That where n

under a penalty of twenty dollars for each and
every day he shall exhibit.
Set. 14. Be it further ordained. That this or-j
dinanec shall take effect from nod after the first |
day of Juno next.

the said Town of Greenville, on the seventh '
