We find the following wonderful

California. The Sweed is certainly a
man'not shaken by trifles, and his case
is almost as bftd a one as that of the
Ohio fellow, who, being Snake-bitten,
had a quart of whiskey administered
to liim, and was fotind the next day
industriously beating about barefooted
among the woods and briars, in the
hope of getting another bite and another
quart of liquor!
A man named Wirsen, a Swede,
who has recently been exhibiting a
number of rattio-snakes in various
parts of the State, and who fancied he
had acquired a power over them which
would prevent them from bitting him,
was severely bitten by one of them upon
the finger, at Sacramento, a r Saw
days ainoe. He immediately dtank
four bottles of brandy, and went to bed
in.a state of stupefaction,. lie is Will

being terribly inflamed. ^l?iq*8

that the enuke did not intend to
bite liiui, and that if he recovers, he
shall continue his experiments, and exbibitious.

THE subscriber has purchased the Right of

Rods in Greenville District, and is prepared
to execute orders for the same to auy extent and

Conducted upon Scientific principles, ami afford
the only method yet discovered of absolute protection
against lightning. Any one acquainted
with the laws of cleotricily, will he immediately
convinced of their utility, \?pon examining them.
Their value has been tested bv experience and
scierce, and has been vouched by hundreds of
certificates from all parts- of the Union. From
ansoagst these the following only are submitted.
"I have enrcfnljy exa mined Otis' insulated
Llfjfhtuing Conductor, and have it attached to the
budding iu wldch I reside. It Is better constructed,
and tnorC securely insulated, thnh any
form of Lightning Rods I have aeon. It is neat
and cheap, and if properly attached to the buildIng,
cannot, fail to afford scetirity against tbe
loss of life and property by electricity I therefore
recommend it as worthy of the confidence
of the community. R. F. Bhumbt.
Prof, of Chemistry, Ac., in 8. C. College,"
Mr. D. G. West hold has recently supplied my
house with Otis' Unproved Conductor. I have
examined them with great care, and am convinced
that they ore the beat Lightning ltods ever
constructed. The methods of attraction und insulation
are new, and seem to me to he perfect.
I can confidently recommend Mietn to all persons
wishing to secure their houses against lightning.
