BE IT ORDAINED, That on the 1st day of October of each year, tho Town Council of Greenville shall appoint or olcct -*? number of Marshals, to serve tor one year, (subject to removal, for misconduct or neglect of duty, by the Council,) to be paid? dollars per monvi. whose duty it shall be to supervise the Patrol Companies and obey all orders of Council in regard to the Police of the Town. They shall report all violations and enforce all Ordinances, and half the penalty imposed for any offence shall be paid to the Marshal or Marshals reporting the same. lie it ordained. That it shall be the duty of the Clerk of Council, on the 1st of each month, to make otitsU distinct and separate Companies for Patrol, td be numbered 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, each to consist of a Captain and three Privates, which Companies shall perform Patrol duty for one month, in the following manuer: The night will be divided Into three c^ual watches, the first wateh to oommcnCc fifteen minutes after the ringing of the town bell. The 1st Company wtll take the first watch the first night, the 4th Company will take the first watch of the second nigut, the 2d Company will take the first watch the third night, and the 6th will take the first of the fourth night; the 2d Company will take the socond and the 3d Company the third watch of the first niglit, the ftth and 6th Companies the second ana third watches of the second niglit, and so on to the end of the montli, no Company having the same wateh two nights in sueeassion. The CViptaina of each Company will, at the expiration of his watch, report to the Marshal on duty, at such point as lie may designate, the man ner lie has discharged his duty, and the default era which reports the Marshal shall present to the Clerk of Council every morning in his return for the-night Captains are required to make a return, at the end of the mouth, to the Clerk, under oath.
