phosphate rock, weighing tons a feat
never performed by any dredge in the
phosphate digging in these waters.

by his haud will average one foot per letter
going to the boxes in which they are
contained, and of course returning, making
two feet for every letter he sets

four miles and in the course of a year,

The pilot boat Mcta of Savannah
whieh was capsized off Mania's industry
lightship last week, was found abandoned
and bottom up about fifty miles at
sea, by the pilot boat F. \V. Sohepcr, of
this place. The pilots and crew of the
Se' eper worked for days and at the risk
ot looking their own vessel to right the
Meta, and secure her in a safe condition
for towing. The Meta had out forty
fathoms of cable and an anchor which
were not discovered until the was righted
On Saturday the Meta was brought lip.
to the dock where she now lies. The
masts sails and rigging were all lost but
the bull which, appears to be new i.>
scarcely injured.
Sheriff Wilson arrested one of the par |
ties engaged in the muidcr of Mr. liaus-1
man of Aiken, last week and will deliver
him to the Sheriff of Aiken County. The
Sheriff and his deputies have been working
the case for some time, and they arc
entitled to great credit for the skillful
manner in securiug evidence sufficient io
warrant the arrest.
Neither the Sheriff of Aiken or his
dt puty had auything to do with the arrest
here,
