The election returns of this county show that as anticipated a larger vote i would be polled than usual The demo-1 % coats we:e earnest and active at the polls j and notwithstanding imitation tickets ana ; 1 the devices to Jcoicve the colored voters I wen- solid for the republican ticket. T!:_ ! I straight-out democratic fight aroused the fears of the republicans to the highest pitch, and in order to make a sure thing j for the ticket, teams were engaged a!; j day in bringing oil disabled men and the j lukewarm. The following'is the result: j Precinct. Chamberlain. Hampton Beaufort, 562 lio 2 Paris Island, 141 12 Port Hoval, 123 5') Varnsviile, 66 271 Ladies Island, 312 8 Grays ilill, 476 9 Peeples, 69 1S9 Pocotaligo, 210 99 Branson, 310 280 Cofnn Point, 148 22 Arick Church, 719 hi Nivville, 36 112 Myrtle Bush, 2i>l 5 r Farduer's Corner, 537 75 Grahamville, 232 1 OS Genesis X Roads 142 J1 Henes' X Roads 60 94 Lawtonville, 313 230 Matthews Bluff, 178 43 Gillisonville, 223 173 Levy's X Roads, 447 6-> Belliugor Hill, 412 28 Blufftoo, 423 98 Lawton Church, 210 40 Chisolm Landing, 267 39 Brighton, 186 101 Beech Branch, 22 72 Black Creek, C j t Hilton.Head 464 10 The news troin this Congressional district settle the fact that Gen'I Smalls has been re-elected to Cougrcss, but up to going to press we have leen unable to \s give definite news as to his majority. The election throughout the State and ; Nation has been very close and both par- \ tics claim the election of their candidates ! The indications are that Hayes and j Wheeler and Gov. Chamberiain arc j elected. ? . ^ The election in the town of Beaufort j was one of the quietest that has ever: taken place here, and from all parts of the county we hear the most favorable reports of good order at the polls. The results of the day show the absurdity of the fears entertained by some of riot, and that there is no .'county in the State, where there is such a regard for law and good order. *4^* In several precincts tine dinners were furnished for colored democrats, and in due appreciation they voted tho republican ticket " Just like em. There has been considerable complaint that bricks are taken from wads, pillars, and the drains s?bout town, and sold by boys to different parties. A great amount of damage is done by this kind of thefl and we hope to hear that the < boys who take the bricks and the men who buy them have been arrested; the boys discharged and the men who puscha-e the bricks sent to the penientiary. It the boys could not sell the bricks there would be none stolen, therefore the j the buyer is worse than the thief. < The merchants will have 10 lav in a i n 1 . i r? i t j < new supply 01 nats 11 nan me dcis are paid. The steamship Mongomcrv from New York and the Calvert froui Baltimore ar- J rived at Port Royal on Tuesday. . The orange crop on the surrounding j: . islands is large as usual. The bovs are beginning to sing " I j wish my Sammy could sec me now." ? SST* A "red counterfeit ticket" was ; circulated all over the State and accounts j for the majorities in some counties. The soldiers left the town onI Thursday after being housed for two days ; in a town that did not afford them the ex- i ; citement cf a street fight. ?<?> SfctT It is proposed to convert the re publican banner into fi.-h net*, and do- , n-ite them to defeated candidates. sec<us to he more trouble to find j out the winning candidate than to elect;, him. |&*?Ye suggest to the authorities that whenever there is any count as to the |. guilt of a prisoner they announce nun a i candidate for office. If that don't briny j the proof nothing will! ?o?? The U. S. Marshal cuplurcd a | quantity of whiskey on election day th :t j w is being distributed to color ' I voters in ; the interest of Hampton and Peace. Now that election is ove-. let merchants and business men go to work. When it comes to courting three j is a crowd. <?> JS*#" Thirtv-fo'ii deaths in Savannah last week fr??:u Yellow Fever.
