He is sanguim of success of securing the position on thi bench of the first circuit. Your attention is called to th advertisement of the meeting of the boar of equalization. Mrs, Southward's New Book, T. B. Peterson and Brothers, Philadelphia, have just issued an entire new complete, and uniform edition of all th celebrated works written by Mrs. Emm D. E. N. Southworth, the popular Amei ican Female Authoress. It would be al together a work of supererogation to des cribe the characteristics of Mrs. South worth's style as a novelist, and it woul be profitless to analyze the causes of he popularity. Her position is certainly a the head of all sensational writers, an * there is probably no American autlu: 9 * now living whose writings secure such _ immediate and gener.l circulation. In all her works, the highest and purest i sentiments arc brought out into talcs of s intense interest, while the darker shades oflifc arc used only as lessons of instruction, or to offset the uiorc winning characters she creates. In all of her works there is great originality of character, fine descriptive powers, strange and start?. ling incidents, stirring adventures, scenes of pathos, and pages that quicken the 1 pulses and thrill the heart with interest 1 and almost pain. There is also great in^ I genuity in the construction of her plots, ' and in the pure moral tone which char1 acterizes all her writings. Her novels ! are all full of the strongest interest?exciting to the verge of sensationalism, yet contaiu nothing to offend even the most fastidious delicacy. Her last two new 1 works, just issued, "Ishmcal; or, in the : depths," and' Self-raised; or, from the > depths," are having an immense sale and > popularity, the first of which contains a , new nortrait of Mrs. Southworth thcother a, view of her cottage, on the ! Potomac, with its surroundings, cither of which alone, is worth the price of the book The demand for all of Mrs. South worth's works, at the libraries, continues, and their immense circulation shows that i she is one of the most popular novelists 1 of this century. This new edition is in I duodecimo form, is printed on the finest of white paper, is complete in forty-one | volumes and each voiume is bound in morocco cloth, with a full gilt back, and is sold at $1.75 a volume, or 871.75 for a full and complete set put up in a neat j ' box. Every Family, and every Library in this country, should have in it a complete set of this new and beautiful edition of the works of this talented American Authoress, Mrs. Emma D. E. N. Southworth. CJppies of Ishmeal, and Self-Raised, or any others ot Mrs. Southworth's books, or a complete set of "Mrs. Southworth,s works," will be sent to any one to any address, at once, free of freight or postage, on remitting $1.75 for each one wanted, to the publishers, T. B. Peterson & Brothers, Philadelphia, Pa. A complete listof all of Mrs. Southworth's works, will be sent to any one, on their sending for it to the Publishers. 1776.
