LOCAL ITEMS. Be aufort, f$. C. June 15, 1876. The Rice Interest. The delegates who went to Washingtonjfcin this State, and there met delegof!Ks from Georgia and Louisiaua, and \ co-operated with them in an effort to prevent the passage of the Hawaiian ' bill, admitting rice and sugar from those islands into the United State free of duty, have returned. The bill had been referred to the committee on foreign relations, and the delecation were admitted to a hearing before it. The bill is still in their hands ami will not be reported for some time. The congressional representatives from the States mentioned arc reported to be laboring earnestly for its defeat. The passage of this bill would ruin the rice interest in this State and should not be tolerated for one moment. The South must be protected in the production of her staple commodities. o quorum last night of the Beaufort towu council. o i ItgT Lieut. Governor Gleaves has gone to Cincinnati. 8?*, A. H. With a slight intermission on Tuesday, it has rained all this week in torrents, and not less than ten to twelve inches of water can have fallen. Crop? were suffering from drought before the rain, but now there is danger that they will be drowned out.
