JOB PRINTING AND STATIONERY. We have one of the niwt complete JOB OFFICES s the State, and do work as well and at as low prices as In the cities. Our stock of.STATIONERY islarge Bad will be sold wholesale and retail, as low as in Charleston and Sarannah. Poods and law tdanksin great variety. #Jeial Paper of Beaufort Count?. Wb publish t' is week, in our supplement, the entire debate in the ITou-e of Representatives, on the subject of in qniry into a suitable place for the location of a naval rendezvous on the South Atlantic coast. It will be seen that the argument of the advo atcs of Tvbeewa^ based on the endorsment of the memorial of the city of Savannah by Commodore Amtnen. the absurdity and incorrectness of which we exposed some months since. On what authority Commodore Ammen made the assertion that the fresh water bills of the I>ictator f r the first six months at Port Royal amounted to JS4.5S4.18, we know not, but we do know that the charge made by the contractors for one year, including the six months alluded to, did not amount to $3,000. Let us have fair play, let the truth be told, and we have no four as to the report to be made to Congress on tlic subject of Port Royal, at its next session. On Monday evening the Xew York Hose Co., held a meeting and discussed as to whether they should disband vr reorganize. It was decided to stand by the Company and keep up the name and in order to instill new vigor into the Company, they intend to drum up recruits. get a parade uniform, and devote two days in each month, one to parade and the other for practice. It is much better to fail, than never to have good intentions ami if success attends their eff ?rts they will meet, as they deserve, the praise of their fellow citizens. The fire of last week demonstrated that a more thorough organization, and drill was a great necessity in our fire department. To this end this hose company must elect competent and live officers who wiH take a pride in the success that must attend vigorous effort. What better time for organization and rejuvinating than this centennial year. Keep it going boys for the next hundred years. Oit Thur>day last the roof of Pr. Stuarts residence in Beaufort caught fire from the ehiiuuey, and so rapidly did the fire gain headway th t at one time fears were entertained that the entire building would be reduced to ashes. The new fire company the Phoenix" was the first to put a stream on the fire, then the Union No. 1, with their engine at Watorhouse's wharf commenced to play, and soon after wards the steamer, from the same wharf, placed two streams on the fire. The furniture was removed.but in consequence of the excitement prevailing considerable quantities of it were broken up. This was the largest fire that has occurred in he town for several years, and that it was confined to the roof is to be attributed to the strength of the fire department. It wa< ruuiorcd that the steamer was without water in'her boiler when the alarm of fire was given, but we ascertained that this was not the ca?e, the delay being occasioned by the engineer receiving no orders when the hose was ready for work. The damage is estimated to be between $800 and $1,000, with no insurance.* It has been suggested that a fire police ought to be orgauized to prevent the destruction of property in the indiscriminate efforts to save, as considerable damage was caused thereby at K,b firo I > A duty well done will bring its own rc ward. The Hons. Robert Smalls, and R W. M. Mackey, performed their's in the reeent discussion on the Naval ap propriation bill. This State and section has no special claim on the Hon. L. Danford of Ohio,-and we therefore, in the name of Port Royal and Beaufort extend our thanks for his advocacy of a liberal policy in the selection of a naval rendcx vous. Let the best place for the object receive the prize. This week two of our liquor dealers were brought tip before the Iut ndant charged with a breach of the town ord nance, prohibiting their stores being open on Sunday, and selling or giving liquor. We have repeatedly called attention to ordinances that are not enforced and contended that if they were letters they ought to be repealed, *ie one among the number. Warden DfcM it exerting himself, and brought up <*ses this week, but still it is unfair if eqet) vigilance is not exerted on all oftondfcrs of this ordinance. The tesmer General Sedgwiek, from Sswinnah made itro excursions from *hat eity to Port Royal and Beaufort this week. The boat wrs crowded on Sunday, and on Monday, as many as were on board wire left behind, there being lo room for them. Last "Week there were shipped #rer the Port Royal Railroad, 347 bales cotton. &?T Cranberries 35 cts. per cac 3 Xobert'b.
