All male persons not members of

are required to pay a tax of five dollars

We learn that arrangement have :
been made with Messrs. C. II. Malloiy
and Co. of New York, for the establish- !
iug of a permanant line of steamships
between New York and Port Royal. The
ships composing this line ; re the City of
Anstin. (Titv of Pallas, and City of
Houston. The City of Aus'/n arrived at
Tort Royal on Monday last.
A bill has passed the Senate reducing
the bonJs of County Commissioners
in this County from $5,000 to #5,000.
Beaufort County, was included by an
amendment to a bill providing for this j
reduction in the County ui' Barnwell.
On Monday evening last at the
African Methodist Church, Beaufort, Mr.
John M. Collins, late of Savannah Ga.
delivered an ad Ircss on terapcrauce. The |
lecture w is repeated on Wednesday evening
in the A. M. fi. church.

will not adjourn sine dir. but will take a

for Port Royal, and that rear Admiral
Mullaney, is to be relieved by Pear
Admiral Leroy, now commanding the
South Atlantic fleet, who will have quite
an extensive command, the six monitors
here forming a part The monitors are
preparing with ell practicable dispatch
and the fleet will all rendezvous at Port

Royal, S. C., early in February) where
they arc to be put through an extensive
course of drill. Want of funds is all that
keeps theiu back now.

S. C., December 21st, by which, four ,
stores, valued at $20,000 weie burned. |
The further spread of the conflagration,
with probable destruction of the whole

lives, was prevented by the arrival of a
Great American Fire Extinguisher, an (j
