?????? ?a?MBpmi ilMiii i inn^mwarw. A iVcto Intention.?-A very simple nn?l useful contrivance for planting peas tiuil corn hus been recently invenled by Mr. J. M. Carlisle, of Williamston, in this District. It consists of n hopper, made of tin, niul attached to a stuff about the wire of n walking cane, and may ho used in | the same niuiiiicr, when planting the seed. This hopper extends down to tlio end of the staff, and j is so shaped as to admit a s<pmrc plug of woood about five inches in length, and containing a froovo in ouc side for the escape of the grain.? n the upper end of this groove there is n slight spring, bent so hs to fill up the groove at that 1 point, and in the end of the st:ifl to which the | hopper is attached is a recess for the admission : of the grain, when the end of the plug is helow . that point. When pressed upon the ground, the I plug of wood rises in the liopper, and permits i the grain in this recess to escape down the groove i in the side of it. ami helow this spring. The j weight of the grain uhovo forces it down when i lifted from the ground, and so the process of ; planting is carried on bv this ' It plAntB with a threat deal more uniformity than can be effected by tho hand.
