States, the locality best adapted to woolgrowing,

Luliter Voting, an Auterieatt artisan, who
has obtained a patent lor the invention of ,
a new method of regulating minutely the j
consumption of gas, having been ordered j
to forward his apparatus for adjustment in j
Woolwich Dock-yard, by ori!cr of the j
Lords of the Admiralty, yesterday waited
on the authorities there, and gave the tie* j
cessary explanations fur the application |
of his patent meters, fifty-two of which he j
supplied for the use of the dock-yard. He j
was accompanied by Mr. Van Winkle, also !
an American, who professes to turn out, by J
means of a single piece of machinery, of
which he is the inventor, a number of bolt
nuts, at the rate of from fifty to sixty per
hour, ready for use. The invention is

its need be. A heavy fire having occurred
in Cicavehind. a safe manufacturing firm in
New York wrote to the sufierers from the

baclc that the"" safe" was " safe"?that it was
wonderful, and adds that the night previous
to the fire, one of the clerks placed a Shanghai
rooster in the safe for safe-keeping.?
