Gen. Lopez had made a stand at Mariel,
and has had two engagements with the Government
troops, in both of which he was

steamer Vixen arrived at Pensacola, yesterday
from Havana, reports, that one whole
regiment of Spanish troops had gone over to
Patriots and the people were rising in many
quarters: One General, one Commodore,
one Geneial of Marines, with 200 soldiers,

Tlie American Consul is reported to have
declined to call on the Captain General, in
behalf of the captured patriots.
The Empire city reports that the steamer
Union was wrecked on the Mexican coast on
the Pacific, and was a total loss. The passengers,
crew and gold were all saved, and
the Captain and passengers have taken passage
in the Cherokee.
The Spanish war steamer Tizarro is ashore

City bus arrived from Havana with dates to
the 18th. The Spanish troops had attacked
Lopez, near Bahia Honda, and had taken
51 pftsoneis, including Col. Crittenden and
Victor Kerr, who were carried to Havana,
and executed. Some 200 Spaniards were
killed during the two engagements, and Lopez
was victorious in both.
New Orleans, Aug. 21.?A letter to the
Picayune states that Gen. Manzaria has re

The steamer Pampero appeared off Havana
on tlie 11th and was signalled from the
Moro Castle. She took two pilots from a
schooncr and proceeded west landing at Marie),
12 miles from Duhia Honda and taking
possession of the town of Las Posas.
Tlie war steamer Pizarro and two merchant
steamers with 8Qp troops and OOhorses
left Havana on the morning of the 12th and
attacked Lopez ?n the 13th at San Miguel,
near Las Posoe. The*Pizarro got ashore at
Baliia Honda and Lopez expected to capture
her.
Lopez advanced to San Diego, to cut off
the retreat of the Spaniards. The people
are rising in mavy places. About 500 left
Havana, to join Lopez, of which 50 were
taken prison eft. There are only 700 troops
left in Havana.
Riot in Hew Orleans.
New Orleans, Aug. 21.?The Cuban
liberators, mostly western man, exasperated
by the tone of the Spanish paper La Patria,
tbi^, afternoon attacked the office, broke the
windows and doors, threw the press, cases of
type] and furniture into the street, and destroyed
everything belonging to the offioe.?

of which was that sl?e floated for two hours
along the Gulf stream, approaching Havana.
Before the accident wan repaired, she was
carried full In view of Moro castle, and even
in sight of the soldiers on tho water batter}*.
Getting up ateam again, she bore away for
Bahia Honda, intercepting on tho way a
coasting vessel, from which Gen. Lopez took
two pilots.
On the night of the llih, tho Pampero
approached within fifty yards of the coast,
about fifty miles to the westward of Havana
and without difficulty landed Lopez and his
troops, who immediately secured his retreat
to the mountains by taking possession of all
the roads leading to the interior. As soon
as the news was received in Havana some
300 troope were sent to the scene of action.
The Spanish commander sent in to Lo|>ez to
-kpow what concesiions he wanted?and his
reply was?44 That it was too late to talk of
concessions now. They "did not want concessions.
They came to fight for the liberty
of Cuba."
The New-Orleans Delta has a letter from
Havana, dated the 6th instant, emanating
from a source which it endorses as rcs]>eetable
and trustworthy, from which we cxtract
the following paragraphs, which, if correct,
contain very important information:
u Affaire have come to a crisis, Messrs.
Editors, and the gentlemen of two-colored
coats are as much frightened as though the
was alter them. In this place we have
many compatriots, (citizens of the United
States, like myself,) who labor for the cause
of independence. During the evenings, wo
meet at some of the American hotels, and
as nothing is spoken but English, none of
the Spaniards understand our conversation,
and therefore they do not meddle with us.
" I have no doubt that by this time you
are aware that four thousand of the "everfaithful
soldiers" of her Majesty have turned
coats and joined our cause; and there is not
the least doubt but that, of tho'fourteen
thousand left, more than half will follow suit
in less than fifteen days. We have four expert
corporals and seven experienced ser
geants, who are hard at work. Some
having money, who have already done good
service. One whole regiment of artillery
has joined the patriots, and many others will
follow the same course. Indeed every thing
works well.
*' The rumor to day is that Lopez left
New-Orleans last week with one thousand
men. The news has animated the spirits of
our people. Would to God it were true,
and tbat they land soon, as twenty thousand
patriots wait his arrival to join the A rmy of
Liberation!
44 The garrison of Cubanas is to be removed
by the government, on suspicion of
being concerned with us; but whatever troops
aro placed there, wo are sure that in three
days they will be ours?for those already
secured are reliable, and it will bo easier work
to manage their followers. In Cubanaus,
as well as in Cassa Ulanca, we have good

attention, on board a Northern
steamboat, a few days since, by walking up
to the bar and taking a brandy smash apiece.
