the old hero shouted to them, as they passed

Carolinians!!" Afterthe oration, the procession
moved to the" Episcopal Church,
Where the funeral services was read by the
Rev. P. J. Shand, and the body of Colonel
Butler interred with the Honors of War.

which place it is to be interred, in the family
burying gt-ound of the deceased. During
the ceremonies, minute guns were fired
from the Arsenal, which, with the solemn
tolling of bells, the muffled drums, the imposing
array of the military, the funeral
palls covering the coffins, each resting upon
a heavy cannon, and drawn by four white
horses, the riderless horse of the deceased,
the flag shrouded in crape, the shattered
remnents of the Palmettos, following the
corpses, some on crutches and almost all
bearing on their persons evide nce of the
dreadful scenes through which they had
passed, the sorrow and gloom depicted in
every countenance, presented a scene the

beheld.
