There la, perhaps, no jtyore baneful
influence exerted upon the minds .of the
youth oi this country, than the too com

tlonal literature. K samples of tbe evil
effects of such reading are numeron*,
nnil the telegraph brings almost dally
recount a of boy? whose minds have be
come #o much poisoned by ''dime nov

embarked upon an em of crime and
reckleaanosa. A short lime since, three
boy a were arrbated while on their way
Wen, having stolen a:,large amount of

trashy and dlsguatiug "dime, novels.''
l>oubtleas they were on their way to the
wild Waat, to engage lu eome crimes of
?a more exciting character. Iu one of the
public schools of l'hllaialphfo, a ahort

bud by the police aulborltlciy aeven re
volver* were captured from fcoya in that
*choot, tho most of whom were ubout
ten yeara of age.
Something should be dona to check
the growth of this evil. It Is now assum
ing proportions too vast for the safety
of tho boys and glrla of this generation.
If parents would provide literature of
a light and fnteteatlng, but not an evil
and worthless character; for tho young
folks, it would cause many to avoid thl;
rack upon which their fortunes may be
forever blasted.
