We had time lu our last iesuo barely
to mention the Cart that the organization
ol* Clio Camden Short Line Jiall road com
pany had been perfected, and Mint work
would at once bo commenced on tho new
road .
At ? meeting of (lie board of directors,
held lust Thursday , a committee was ap
pointed to locate the point of beginning
work, and on Monday lust Hie commit
tee, consisting of Messrs. NV. A. An
crum, S. B. Latham, F. W. Kldredge
and F. P Beard, went over tlio survey
as far as Smyrna church, nea^tlie Falr
lleld line, and selected th;?t point for
commencing tho work of grading. The
committee entered into contract for
clearing the roadway on two section*,
and the contractor commences work to
dny.
We are gratified to witness so earnest
u spirit which characterizes the board of
directors, and tho business men of Cam
den general!}', in this enterprise. The
fact Is at last realized that something
must be done towards obtaining greater
railroad advantages than Camden now
possesses. ^

at a salary of six dollars per day. This
is another way which has been adopted
to get rid of the great surplus of money
In the public treasury. Each year de

some advantage, but if the impecunious
sons, nephews, brothers and uncles of
Senators are simply to bo pensioned at
six dollars a day, there will be no im
provement In the quality of Senatoiial
'speeches, and tho spoils system will bo
ojdarged and extended without tho least
return to the public. "

way, while hunting on Wednesday act
