The following statistics, showing the
material prosperity of Soytli Carolina,
are furnished by a Columbia correspon
dent of the Augusta Chronicle : I :i 1870
the 'number of bales of eotton ringed in
the State whs 5*22, 548; In 1882, 6110,758.
J n 1879, 11,704,310 bushels of corn were
produced; In 1882 17,400.000 bushels,
'i he amount of wheat harvested in 1870
w*s 762,330 bushels; In 1882, 2.073.600.
Oats In 1878, 2,715,445 bushels; In 1882,
8,004,600 bushel*. Barley in 1879, 16,
C45 bushels; in 1882, 423,000 bushel*.
Bye In 1879, 26,087 bushels; in 1882,
130,500 bushels. Sorghum? gallons pro
duoed In 1870. 261,408; in 1882, 507,167
gallons. In 1879 the farmers made 257,
405 gallons of milk; in 1882, 430,0113;
and' III 1870 made 3,106,857 pounds of
butter on the farm, and In 1882, 4,601,
481 pou tide.
Thk Cknsus Mi ddi.k seems not to be
?o bad after all. It will be remembered
that the Superintendent of the census,
was obliged to suspend work on
account of the great pressure made u|>ou
his mind by the enormous array of fig
ures. Gen. Francis A. Walker, who su
perintended the compilation of the ninth
census, has bean called upon to complete
the tenth (1880) census and, after an ex
amination of the work, says ilia* it can
bo completed during the present year at
nn cxpe.nsu of about $200,000. So we are
to have the census completed after all.

par, and there is now no floating State
debt.
