mons where they have nearly seven
hundred members. In view of this our
people must exercise charity towards
their members for apparently neglecting
some pet measures. We have from this
State in the IIouso no man of very ex
traordinary capacity hut working, <wi>
ful and utlonlivu men. They have had
a selge of it this session and are doubt- I
less anxious to return home.

speech of Col. Aiken on the,.neeessity
and propriety of elevating the Agricul
tural Bureau to the dlgnjty of a cahlne
position. It is a strong, earnest upd
statistical speech, and is done up In his
best style. Wo were prepared from the
comments of tho Press to aeo a capital
effort hut were more than pleased with
it when we saw it in full. He is a thinkr
or, and never says anything on Indus
trial or practical subjects without saying
it well and pointedly. This Is tho bent
of Ids mind, and makes him a most
faithful and zealous representative ol'his
Urgo Agricultural constituency. We
congratulate him on this effort, and do
not see how anything move could be said
on the subject. He hit? tho "Bull's
eve" every shot.

the eallsthenie exercises of the gliis and
young|adics of this Institute, Wo found
these exercises to bo of a very interest
ing nature, and regretted that wo were
forced to leave before they were conclu
ded.
In the afternoon, tho cltlzons gavo us
a ride around the city, stopping at tho
beautiful residence of f>r. 8. 8. Marshall,
on Washington Streot, and partaking of
the goftorouH and open-handed hoapTtal
itiea of this estimable gentleman, whom
all Greenville adores. We cannot retrain
ffom publicly thanking Capt, I. 8.
Hunt, and the other gentlemen who had
chargo of our "rldo 'round tho city,"
for kind attention and efforts to please

the President, we vlelted tho Opera
House, where took place the commence
ment oxerolsoa of the Greenville Female
College, It were valmfor us to attompt
to recite tho mnny~interostlng features of
tills enjoyablo occasion. Wo shall not
attempt to do so. The essays read by
the graduating clasp wero all superbly
rondcrod and evidenced a high decree of

After the exerciser wero concluded, a

graduating class, which numbered about
eleven. Of course we were on hand;

pleasant than would hayo been without

On Friday evening a sumptuous and
