our last issue, wc had not sufficient time
to prepare an aocount of the supper giv
en by the Kershaw boys, on the evening
of the match hotwecn that club and the
Auroras, of Orangeburg.
About ten minutes past ten o'clock,
the large crowd which had assembled at
Rodger's DeKalb House, wore sum
moned to the capacious dining hsll and
offered seals at tables well-filled wi;h
suuiptuoni fare for tho inner man.
Roast pig, baked and fried chicken, roast
mutton, ham, beef, rioe, and an almost
endless catalogue of those good things
of this life that often tempt even the
most temperate to assume the role of
''Gormand," occupied conspicuous po
sitions on the table*. Then, the po
lite, aeeompliahod and attentive "waiters"
?for they did wait for the last table?
made us to feel that we were aboard

Salmond, of tbe Kershaw club, was call
ed on for a spoech, and responded in a
?hort and ne*t address of thanks to the
Orangburg boys for the pleasure they
bad affordod our oommuaity in wit
neasing the gamo on that afternoon.
President T. B.: Boyd, of the Aurora
club, followod in a most exquisito and
soul-inspiring address, allading to the
time when his boyhood was spent almost
within the sound of his roioe. The
captains of the two nines, Mr. A. J.
Boykin and Mr. Walker, also made short
speeches. Mr. Robison, of the Carolina
club, of Charleston, was called up, and
he offered as a toast the beautiful and
simple word "Woman.** This was re
sponded to by President T. Long, of
the Camden club, who delirerod a strong
and eloquent address, appealing to the
young ^gentlemen present to work for
the restoration of our dear old Caroline.
Messrs. B. O. Bctterson, W. D. Trant
ham, L. H. Wannamaker and J. M. De
SausRurc, jr. also made short addresses.
The most amusing speech was that of
Mr. Jj. C. Thompson, of Liberty Ilill,
whioh brought forth loud applauses at
frequent iuterral*. Judge W. Z. Leit
ner, being called, thanked the assem
blsge for the profound pleasure he had
enjoyed on the ooeasion, and told the
young mon of Carolina that they were
still worthy of liberty, and would, ere
long, secure thst desirable prise. He
urged npoa them the great importance
of being true to tho prineiplea of our
forefkthcra, and told them that Timo
would set all things right

| ment if they are so disposed. All they

their organ the Charleston News and
Courier announces, are entirely willing
to support such a ticket. They don^
ask that other men than Republicans be
selected, provided they are of unques
tioned integrity and fitness. This pa
triotic offer shows that the Conservatives
are sin9erc in their efforts to secure re
form. It remains to be seen if the He
publicans are willing to help them.?

Gev. Grant by no sort of logic can
be proven to favor tbe nomination of
either Chamberlain or Moses to the
Governorship of South Carolina. His
declaration in regard to South Carolina
affairs furnish premises that forbid such
a conclusion. That he would favor
Gen Kershaw's olectidn. no one can pos
itively assert. That he would not ob- I
jcetto his election, is a logical sequent
of bis declarations in favor of an honest
government in this State.
