Board of Directors of the South Carolina
Monument Association, held on Mon
day, Julj 13, 1874, the following state
ment of finances was made by the Treas
urer, Mrs. W. K. Bach man : Total
amount received, $5,603,16 ; small ex
penditures by authority of tbe Board of
Directors, $124.63 ; paid Muldrow &
Co., architects of the Monument, $3,
476,53.
'About $5,000 are still wanting to oom
pleto the sum due. The Board of Di
rectors confidently hope that the different
District* will sooh report a sufficient
amount collected to enable the work to
ba finished.

Large Democratic gains are reported
from every soction. Wake County has
gone Democratic by a gain of some six
hnndrod. The State has gone largely
Democratic with almost a certainty of
seven out of eight Congressmen.
Those whose election is regarded as al
most oertain are Jesse J. Yeatoa, first
district; A. M. Waddell, third district;
Joseph J. Davis, fourth distriet; A. M.
Scales, fifth district; Thomas 8. Ashe,
sixth district; Win. M. Bobbins, seventh
district, and R. B. Yanoe, eight district.
The second district, comprising the ooun
ties of Edgeoombo, Wilson, "i^roen,
Wayne, Swain, Jones, Craven, North
hampton, Warren and Halifax, is known

stockholders therein, with the number of

moneys, of such shares, together with a des

this act, shall deduct from the actual total
value of the shares in any such bank or
banking association, the appraised value of
the real estate owned by such bank or bank
or banking association, as the same stands

?uch shares of stock, or the value thereof,
in manner aforesaid, shall be and remain a

offioer or agent tkercof, under oath, together
with such 'other persons as be may deem

quired by mid 85th section, and enter ths
value of said shares on the duplicate tor
taxation. Any Bank offloer toiling to make
out and tarnish to the county the statement
or wllltally making a false statement, as re
quired in this net, shall be liable to a fine
not exceeding one thousand dollars, together
with all ooets and expenses incurred by the
auditor or other proper officer In obtaining

Section 40. All incorporated banks and
bankers shall annually, between the 1st of
July and 80th of August, make out and re
turn to the nnditor of the proper ocunty, un
der oath cf the owner or principal offioer or
manager thereof, a statement setting forth :
1st- The average amount of Botes and
bills receivable, discounted or purchased in
the course of bualusss by such uninoorpora
tsd bank, hanker or bankers, and oonsider
od good and collectable.
2nd. The average amount of acoounts re
ceivable.
