Mr. Johnson Istfo duced s bin to suthorise oounty treasurers of the State to recelre in payment of cdfcnty taxes tbe aadlted accounts of the sheriffs, clerks of county eonrta, jw<?Kn?y sinln>s? jurors tlskets, and County Commissi oners' claims. The whole amount called for in the bill to make appropriations is over one million dol lar?. The resolution to irapoach Judge Carpen ter for dismissing a jury is this county was lost by a rote of fifty .six to thirty-one. It is understood that the General Assem bly will not adjourn until after the the Tax payers' Convention meets ; for whst reasons is unknown. THE TIME EXTESDED. By rcfering to a notice to be found else whore in this issue, it will be seen that the time allowed for the payment of taxes with out the penalty has been extended to thefth of March. This is eminently proper. The people of our county, and oftho State gener ally, hare been prompt in meeting the de mands of the Government, and deserved an extended period in which to meet 1hcse de mands. This extension will give ample time to aTl to raise sufficient funds to meet the call for taxes, and we have no doubt that it will be met in good time. TIIEBANKRUPT BILL. The United States Senate has adopted an amendment to the bankrupt bill, whioh fix es the time st forty dare In which s person is business who has stopped or suspended, shall sot be deemed s bankrupt ; and also prescribes that the foe*, commissions, Ac., excepting actual and necessary expenses, t.'from'wfestth^j TUK SIAMESE TWIXS. According to the (Vport 'of the Bureau of SuiUmUcs, tl}ere was a con siderable tailing off ia the importation of the principal articles of British manu facture for the year 1873, as compared with the previous yr-ir, an?l particularly during the last month of 1875. * Tale cotton pioce goods for example, and wo find that in 1872, 1 III,<>17,339 yard* wore imported, while in 1873 the num ber of yards was 10!).fHM?,340. So wo might go through the list of --imported articles and find a corresponding rudtic tion. Iron, however, is *p?vi:dly worthy of mention. In 1C72 there were -4C7, 3<>4 tuna of rap road iron, 64,553 tuns of bar, angle, b'>lt and rod iron, and .^105, 151, tuns ol peg iron imported, while in 1873 the amount was?railroad hvu, 185 70*2 tuns ; pijr iro'n, 102,024 tnn*, and bar And other kinds of iron, 23.006 tuns This is a difference of over $20,000,01)0 in iron tdonc. If we cju continue to re duoe our imports and increase.- our ex {K)rta the exchanges will be more in our favor, and this would do more to bring dowu the premium on gold and carry iu to a speeio basis than all the proposed legislation of Congress. According to promise, and for the ben efit of the farming public, I herewith ap pend a brief and correct account of the preparing, manuring, and cultivation of uiy acre of cotton grown this season. The soil is sandy, with clay subsoil. Has been ^cultivation fur sixty or eighty years. I ?uppon*?. About hail' of tlie aeto was an old lung-hill, the ther halt'j wry p.?or before manuring. The guano [ use w.is Kettleswclls A. The pine straw, cotton seed, and sta ble nmnure, I h iuled out in January, aud strewed broadcast, over the land, ;hi*u 'nrne I under with a two-burse pi..ugh. breaking eight inehe% djep. Then a ith a sixteen inch V??ter run iu "th<j iwahorse furrow, bieuking from five.to seven inches ; in the whole thir teen inchcs dep. I then followed in the so-oter furrow with the guano, or subsoil furrow, so on. till completed. Iu February, I rep.-ated the br aking in -lime manner, leaving off m muring.? In Martfc, the same again, bieAiug each time crosswise, or. in opposi e direction. In AprH, I harrowed the Isod twice to level the soil, and deetroy the young vc gctation. Then I checked off my row* three feet each way, with a hm..U bull tongue plongh, and on the l&h day of May, 1 planted my cotton seed fn tho hill, six or eight seed, dropped by hahd, and covered with the foot ; the aeed^when covered betag^on a lew 1 The seed were tho ''Chaster Cotton" variety. . I purchased thenUroin >David liiuheon, Eaq.. Oxford. OaTto whom I must oofifces I am indebted for my suc cess, *o a certain extent. The seed, I am oonfident, were half the battle. The cotton was thinned to one stalk to the hill in June, with the exception of the outside rows, in which I left two stalks. Then I ploughed with twenty-four inch sweep, ^Dickson's," very shallow, one furrow to the row, and about eight days afterwards I repeated the same, running one furrow to tpe row, just scraping the earth enough to destroy the young weeds and graee. Did not use a hoe in it, in order to avoid skinning tho cotton ; in fact, had no use for any, as the cotton grew so fast the shade thereof prevented all vegetation from growing underneath.
