at this Department that an atrocious
murder was comqaitted on the 11 th instant upon the
bodyofELIAS GRANTJTAM, a .Deputy Sheriff of
Marion District, whilst in the discharge of his dhtiOB
as such Deputy ; and that NICHOLAS W. GADDT,
CHARLES TART, and DAVID BEA8LEY, a free
..person of color, stand charged with said murder, and
that said persons havo fled from justice:
