Cbolkra.?In addition to the cases of Choi
era heretofore mentioned in New York, Boston,
Cincinnati and Nashvilie, we notice allusions
to a choleritic t^dency in the upper portions
of our own and to adjoining States. In view
of this tendency, and as a matter of precaution,
it might be prudent to have on plantations,
ready for promptapplication in any emergency,
the following prescription, which is rec<<m

"Laudanum, two drachms, (two teaspoonful)
spirits of camphor, one drachm; sweet tincture
of rhubarb, four drachms ; aqua ammonia,
(hartshorn,) half a drachm; oil of peppermit,
15 drops. Take a teiispoonful in hot sweetened
water every fifteen minutes, to allay the
vomiting and pain."
The British Government having determined
to withdraw troops from Canada, the Provincial
Government have decided to act upon a
suggestion thrown out in a recent debate in
the House of Lords, to the effect that the Province
should establish a standing army ot their
own, and to maintain it at their own ex pen e.
The troops now.in garrison at Quebec are under
sailing orders fi?r England.
A Hard Hit.?Henrv Ward Beecher says

though the ballot box should be placed in the
jaws of h?1.
To this the Wheeling Argus replies, that
every ruan has a right to vote in his own pre
cinct.
The following letter from the celebrated Dr.

cannot accede to your lequest for the following
reasons:
The law requiring that the composition shall
be published, of every medicine sold in the
State cannot work to the injury of any body
who deserves protection. 1 have published
the recipes of my medicines for fifteen y<-ars,
and believe this to be the honest way of ma
k?hg their virtues know to the community.?
The Medical Profession publish thejr discoveries
to the world as soon as made, for the
benefit of mankind. Why should we not? ?
The Law which you fear w ill destroy your business,
cho injure only those who falsely pretend
to discoveries and secrets which thex
have not. It will expose the emptiness of such
pretentions, and the public vs ill turn aside from
such preparations are fond to he worthless
when their composition is known. If medicfhes
have leal worth, the) will he only the
better appreciated and the better pationizcd
by laying their composition open to the Public
that all may judge for themselves. If the)
have not real merit, it is due in common justice.

and to the cause of humanity, that the people
should know them to avoid them.
