Arrival of the Alps. .
Nkw York, March 7.?The steamship
Alps has arrived from Liverpool, from which
place she left on the 15th of February.
The Cotton Market was active, the sales of i
the week amounting to 70,000 bales, of which
speculators took 21,000 and exporters 3,000.
The quotations are, for fair Orleans 0 1-2, Middling
5 78; Fair uplands 6 14; Middling
5 3 4.
Western Canal Flour 40s ; Ohio, 41; Yellow
and White Corn, 47. Lard, Rico and
Bacon are unchanged. Consols 91 1-2.
No important change has taken place in the
Eastern question. The larger part of th" allied
fleets were ordered to remain in the Bos
phorus. There had been no further operations
upon the Danube. Omar Ptvsha had hanged
two Greek spies. Kalafat was garrisoned bv
30,000 men. Gen. Auseph, who had com
niand of the Austrians at Citale, has been disgraced
and sent to the Caucasus.
The British steamer Hydra, with some Turks
board, went ashore near Sebastanol and was
siezed by the Russians. Russia is still endeav.
Voring to impress upon her soldi, rs the holy
character of the war, and they are told they
hre on their way to rescue the sepulchre of
Christ from the infidels. -- The
Patriarch of Moscow had delivered an
exciting discourse to the 7th Corps on their
leaving the Danube. From Asia we learn that
the Russians had been again . repulsed before
Sheftakia, with the loss of 2,000 men.
The Prince of Servia had arrived at Vienna,
With the object, as was supposed, of negotiating
for the temporary occupation of-Servia b v
Austrian troops. * *
The bark Bonny Bee from Savannah for Livpool,
was picked up off the coast of Ireland,
~ waterlogged. . The crew bad been twelve days
without food or water, and ten, including the
Master, had died of starvation. The remainder,
seven in number were landed at S van sea, and
were, dofng well.

otherwise. ' The Queen's Guards, a regiment

were holding themselves in readiness; engineers,

In the House of Commons,- <>u Thursday,
Mr. D'Israeli asked if Napoleon's letter was
authentic. Lord Johirfiussel replied that it
was, and that the British Government held itself
responsible for its sentiments.
In Paris it was rumored that the answer of
Nicholas had been received and was' unfavorable.
A force of 80.0(H) of the French army
was ready to embark simultaneously with the
British troops. The M on i tear contains official
notice of the annexation of New Caledonia. ...
Austria was making great preparations for
war, but her conduct excites suspicion of her
fidelity to the allied cause.

Letters from-St. Petersburg state that military
preparations are going on, on an immense

Fortifications at Constantinople are going
on. The health of the army and lleet are excellent.
GOOD men and 24 ships left on the

important debate occurred in the English
Parliament on the question of the army and
navy supplies and Turkish affairs. The Queen
has issued a proclamation forbidding exportation
of arms and ammunition. A dreadful
colliery explosion occurred at InchealI, Wigan;
100 men were killed.
Liverpool?Cotton was flat, and a 16th
lower; the sales of the three days w ere 19,000
bales for export, and 3,00'.? on speculation.

A defensive alliance between France and
Switzerland is hel'cved to be concluded.
Mr. Daniel's letter to the Richmond Examiner
has excited great comment at Turin.

The past week opened on Friday, the first
IV, with a very active demand, which enaled
holders again to realize full prices. On
aturdav and Monday also, buyers continued
good demand, and the market was equally

worthy resident of the Ninth Ward, has been Ironled
more or less, for fifteen years, with Rheumatism

was applied ono night, and lie was up about bis
usiness the next morning, lie continued well until
