y account of your mission to those who:sent you tell them, from me, that in the next month of ^ March I will leave this^pot for the shores of i Mexico. On my arrival there I will call around 1 ine those persons of influence who are true lov- I ers or meir country. 1 win v< win. ...v..., and if I find co-operation ; if 1 find sincerity and a good will to abnegate capricionsness and mistaken opinions and finally, if 1 fad men of heart to make an obstinate defence of our rights against the aggressors from the North, and that the only cry is independence or death then xoill I lend myself cheerfully to new sacrifices ; for, in I cannot survive the disappearance of Mexican nationality, and I desire to bury myself in its ruins, if,' after the Mexicans have done their duty, the great Regulator of the destinies of nations should order lor us such a"f;?te; But if my hope should not find encouragement equal to my desires, which never ^ can be other than the weal and glory of our nation, I will return disconsolate to this retirement, to deplore the blindness of a people that obstinately believe-that it can do everything when.it leaves the only path left open to it, and c will not imitate those who, like them, have x found themselves in a similar situation." J . a ~ i Singular Marriage.?The Dundee Record l notices a singular marriage which took place 1 at Weston Steuben county, N. Y. bn the 21st ult. The parties are John P. Emmerson and Mary Jane Bennett. The Record says: The < bridegroom is about 21 years of age, a brother of a Mrs Iloover, carrying on an extensive ' business as a tailoress at Weston. He has ' been at sea most of the time for 1 or 12 yen a past, and after an absence of about five years, had just called up to see his sister. Finding . that she had in her employ some sixteen or seventeen young women learning the trade, he \ strolled into the room in a free and easy manner, and told the girls that if there was any one r there who wanted to marryfhim right off, to say c the word; The bride above named forthwith 1 dropped her work and declared herself ready for the nuptials. Within an hour from that j the parties were spiked. A jdlly wedding took place,>and the;next day he>left his charming J bride for a voyage on the briny ocean." ( A FaVt. Sl'erpkh:?We recollect reading, j some nibnths'since, a paragraph" "going the 1 rounds" of the.papers, staling the curious fact ^ that a Gunyer on board amiin of war, during the bombardment of Vera Cruz, being nearly u exhausted by.the incessant toil'he had undergone' in the inariageraelit of his'Gun, surrendered his post to another, and lay down on the deck by ati Eighteen Pounder, and enjoyed two j ltoursT>f solid sleep, while the Piece was continually Kurlinjg'its Iron hail"upon the fated city. The following incident was related to us by. a friend/a few days since, and i^is cer-" r tainly the most extraordinary case of sleepy f hfodedriess that we have bver known. A ne- J gro man, the property of a citizen of our town, j a few days since, for bis owu amusement, lay s down up??n the track of the Wilmington and r Manchester Rail Road, and fell asleep, between ( the cross-ties. The passenger train came sud- ] denly upon-him before he was discovered.? The whistle and breaks would have served to i only rouse him to-be crushed to atoms, in the i attempts to rise. With great presence of mind* all steam was put on and the train rushed over ' him. The breaks were then applied as soon c as possible, and the cars rolled slowly back towards the "wreck of matter." All bands jump- f ?d oet to see the mangled corpse. They ap- c proached the motionless body, and to the astonishnVen't of everyone, he was uninjured, and f fo3 he still slept. He was roused, and then taken to the nearest station, where the proper 1 authorities after all necessary preliminaries " were arranged, performed sundry fierce gym- ? wwitic gyrations around his body corporate, until they were satisfied that he was thorough- ^ ly awake, when they left him to ponder over J the cun&iis incidents of the day. We think he t might, in one ..view of his case, have truly ex- t claimed, ft ith Lk>n c^uixoie s luuuiui squirt, i " Blessed is te that invented sleep."?Black 1 River Watchman.
