"JJut the most striking feature of this colossa
^ statue is the whole group being balanced am
Hk resting on the hind feet alone. There is no otbc
support. The tail is thrown up, and the for
feet raised in a rearing attitude. Hero is a mas
of metal, thirty-five thousand pounds weight
balanced on the biud feet of the horse, and stand
as immovable as the pedestal itself. It was con
sidered a great triumph of art in supporting th
world-renowned statue of Peter the Great, at Si
Petersburg, which is only about a thousam
\ pounds heavier than this one, by its hind fee
and tail alone. The English papers speak i
high terms of the artist of the Wellington statin
at Edinbtirg, for baring succeeded in sustaining
that great statue in the same way, that is, b
