A lawyer of Louisville, a few days ago,
found that a book full of valuable pro
-uisBory notes, which had been stowed
away for some years, had been so gnawed
by rats, that the signatures had all been
destroyed, while the remaining parts re?
mained uninjured.
1-IIn the Court of Probate in London
there has been tried a case in which two
elderly maiden eisten made wills iu each
other's favor, but by some error one
signed the will of the other, and vice
versa. One of these wiIIb was in dispute,
and the court deolined to grant probate.
It is proposed to spend some SI 1,000,
000 to bring drinking water from the
Calaveras River to San Francisco, and
the tax-payers, in view of the present
cheapness of whiskey and native wines,
naturally complain of the unnecessary
waste of money. I
A woman in Manhattan, Kansas, wished
to plaster a room, but she could buy only
the limo and sand. Then she sheared
her dog to get the hair, put the plaster
on herself, and papered the walls. That's
the way grit wins in Kansas.
It is 1,000 years this year since the first
