A'young lady at a sociable gathering
the other evening, who was overcome by
the heat of the room and fainted grace?
fully away, inspired the poet of the occa?
sion to the following tender effort:
Take her up tenderly, lift her with care,
But whatever you do, don't disturb her
back hair,
Since though now pale and lovely she
tranquilly lies,
Touch her hair and she'll get up and
scratch out your eyes.
Tho Brooklyn Argus: "Tho most quiet
and' unobtrusive female can create a
considerable sensation when a frightened
cockroach mistakes her leg for the near?
est way home." Tho Brooklyn scandal
has no thoroughly demoralized the news?
papers-there that they now talk about
female legs with a freedom and flip?
pancy, that would Buflasc with a blush
the check of a cast-iron mermaid.
It is a little singular that Col. Wheeler,
who opened the mint in Charlotte in
1835, (Torty y ears ago,) should be there
now, in 1875, to close it up.
There are in tho United States 8,654
Blue Lodges, 543,474 Master Masons, 406
Encampments and 40,410 Knights.
Seven female clerks are employed in
the New Orleans post office.
They'pay seventy-five cents a bushel
for dead grass-hoppers in Missouri.
