O'Gbadt's Lost Diamonds.?In Novem?
ber lost, one O'Grady, a diamond ped?
dler, lost $6,000 -worth of diamonds, near
Fulton Ferry, Brooklyn. Officer Grant
was seen by a neWBboy to pick up a
Saokage supposed tobe the lost jewols,
>'Graay went to Grant, but did hot re?
ceive the stones. He then advertised
a reward of $1,600 for the recovery of the
property. This was answered by ono
Abel Crooke, a New York lawyer, who,
offered to give , O'Grady his diamonds on
proving property and paying the reward.
O'Grady did not wish to pay the teward
then, but offered Crooke $1,000 if ho
would give up the .jewels. Mr. Crooke
said he would not sell out his client in
that way. O'Grady then unsuccessfully
attempted to pay the reward in counter?
feit money. Crooke finally obtained the
$1,500 and gave O'Grady the diamonds.
O'Grady now charges fraud, and Eues
Abel Crooke for the return of the $1,500.
Mr. Crooke answers and; says he paid tho
money to his client after deducting his
fees. The coso is in the City. Court.
A Kidnapped Bot Bestoued.?Tho Ra
leigh (N. C.) Sentinel otatos thai about
eleven years ago, tho Federal. army car?
ried off from that city Edward Alston,
aged eleven years, the son of Mrs. Emily
Alston. The family mourned him as
dead, and nothing was heard or known
of his fato till twelve'months after, when
he wrote to his uncle from Vermillion,
in Edgar County, Illinois. He has had
a rough time, first working in tho field, [
next in a blaoksmith shop, then in a car?
riage shop, and from there he joined the
United States Army. As a soldior, he
fought the Indians two years on the Yel?
low Stone Biver, and from there he was
ordered to Shreveport, in the Louisiana
troubles, where, ho was discharged from
the army, through the influence of
friends, and returned to Raleigh a few
days since. Alston now weighs . 160
pounds, is twenty-two years of age, and
is every inch a man.

so am I.'. But,.he, held over the Presi?
dent in 'point of podigree by saying, that
not only was ho, Lone Horn, a chief, but
that he was a son of a long line of chiefs, [
who originally owned the whole country.
He said that'he to-day owned the coun?
try, by right of inheritance, and he
proposed to claim it His men were
soldiers and meant to fight with him.
This grandiloquent speech did not make I
the Preside''' am?e.
