A desperate character has fallen into the clutches of tho law near Stanford, Ky., whoso -whereabouts remained for somo timo very shrewdly and successfully conceal? ed from tho officers. Tho man, whoso name is Bridgowater, had a retreat in tho woods at some dis tanco from his home, and did not betray himself in the necessary and frequent communication with the latter place, a small but intelligent dog acting as messengor. Bridge water's hiding place was between a couple of hnge chestnut logs, over which at night a piece of oil cloth was thrown. "Whenover it became necessary to send word to friends, or to receivo a message from them, tho outcast would tie his communi ? cation about tho dog's neck and dispatch him on tho journey, which would be accomplished in a very short space of time.
