Yo'r right when you lays it down, Parson,
Thet the flesh is weak and a snare;
And to keep yer plow in tho furrow ,
When yer cattle begins to rare?
Ain't no sure thing. And between us,
The same may bo said of prayer.
Why, I stood'the jokes, on tho river,
Of the boys, when the critters found
Thet I'd jined the church and the snicker,
Thet, may be ye mind, vent round,
The day I set down with the mourners,
In the old camp mcetin' ground.
I stood all that, and I reckon
I might at a pinch stood more?
For the boys, they represents Baal,
And I stands as the rock of the law, 1
And it seemed like a moral scrimmage,
In holdin' agin their jaw.
But thor's crosses a Christian suffers, ?
As hez'nt got that pretense
Things with no moral purpose,
Things, ez tiez got no sense;
Things, ez, somehow, no profit
Will cover their first expense.
Ez bowl I.was just last evenin'
Addrpssin' tho Throne of Grace,
And mother knelt in tho corner,
And each of the boys in his place?
When that eneakin' pup of Keziah's
To Jonathan's oat gave chuse!
I never let on to mind 'em,
I never let on to hear; .
But drive that prayor down the fcrrer
With that cat hi din' under my chair,
And Keziah a whispOrin' "sic her!"
And another a sayin' "you dare!"
I asked for a light for the heathen,
To guide on his narrer track,
With that dog and that cat jest wnltzin',
And Jonathan's face jest black,
When the pup made a rush and the
kitten?
Dropped down on the small of my
back.
Yet, I think, with the Lord's assistance,
I might have continued then,
If gettin' her bolt, that kitten
Hadn't dropped her claws in mo?
.when
It somehow reached the Old Adam
And I jumped to my feet with Amen.
So, yo'r right when you say it, Paxsony I
That the flesh is weak and a snear,
And to keep yer, plow, in the furrow
When yer cattle begins to rare,
Ain't no sure thing. And between us,
I say it's jest so(with prayer.

ing:.. "An American balloonist, by
name Mr. Donaldson, has informed
the Soeiete d* Aerostation, of Paris,
that within three or four months
he intends crossing the Atlantic
from the United States to Europe
in a balloon measuring 70,000 cubic

that there exist a constant current
of air in the upper strata of the

is undeterred by previous failures,
and has provided himself with cans
of Ltiebig's meat extract, life-belts,
blue lights, and rockets, carrier
pigeons, bottles to contain floating
messages, astronomical instruments
and flags, by means of which he
can signal to vessels near which he
may pass. Ho will probably travel
alone, for the sake of lightness,
and the ballast in the balloon car
will principally consist of 'nre-pots'
