Burning of Mrs. Cunway Mason's

cle the burning of tbe residence of the
aged and respeoted widow of the late
Oonway Mason. E<q., in tbe Gilgal
seotion. This occurred between 3 aud
4 o'clock on tbe morning of Monday,
the 11th instant, and is believed by tbe
family to have beeo the work of an in?
cendiary. And still Mrs. Mason should
have no enemies, for her oharaoter is
emineutly that of a pure, charitable,
unoffending Christian. The residence
was large, comfortable and elegantly
furnished. But little of the furniture
even was saved. Among tbe furniture
burned, was a handsome new piuno.
Mrs. Mason' loss is estimated st from
85,01)0 to 86,000. Mrs. and Miss La?
nier, a daughter and grand daughter
of Mrs. Mason, were on a visit to her
at the time of this fire, and their loss
ia said to be fully $500.
