The ?aouue.bill, whiob passed the Se?
nate some weeks ego Uns bec? ucted
upon faVorabiy iOHtuo; Hon?o of Rep?
resentatives and now only needs the
PreBidout'u approval to become a 'law.
It came up in the Houee, last Friday,
and w,a? presented and pressed by Mr.
Maynord,.Chairman of the Committm
on Banking and Currency. Iu order
to cut off .all debate and amendment,
the previous question was culled und
the call unstained by a vote of 125 yeas
to 100 nays. The question wiib then
put upon tho passage of tho bill, and
it passed by a vote of 136 yeas to 09
nays. The Democrats went solidly
ugaiost the bill, the Republicans di?
vided to some extent, although a large
majority o! the party voted iu its
favor. Not a single Democratic vote
is found among the yeas, while twenty
seven Republicans voted no. Ten of
these came from the South and West.
The remaining seventeen, strange to
say, came from the Middle and East?
ern States. MoBt of the oarpet-bag
gera .went with \ tho Republican majo?
rity in favor of the bill. The cause of
disaatislaotion among the bolting Re
pnblioans seems to have been not
opposition to resumption, but opposi?
tion to deferring resumption for
so niahy years. It is generally con?
ceded that' the President, in view
of the urgent recommendations of his
message, will not hesitate to give the
measure his approval and.it may be ex?
pected to gO into operation in a few
days.,'The Democrat? determined to
oppose it, on the ground that it is
grooaly defective in its provisions, and
white promising a great deul will reully
accomplish very little.
