A very large party of Kansas immi?
grants have recently reaohed Bladon
Oonnty, North Carolina, where they
have detormined to make their future
home. They were formerly residents
of an Eastern State, but yielded to the
late Mr. Greeley's advice to "go West,"
and settled in Kansas, where the grass?
hoppers successfully disputed their
right to tho soil. The new settlers
announce themselves as the advance
guard for a large body of returning
Western immigrants.
Many yearu ago the city of Balti?
more invested $3,250,000 iu the Balti?
more and Ohio Railroad, and raised
the money by issuing bonds at six per
cent, interest. The annual dividends
npon the stock thus held by the oity
have long been ten per cent., loaving
a clear profit of $130,000 a year for

Jokes.?From Florida comes the re
mantio story of Delia Jones, a full
blooded negro aged 40. She fell
desperately in love with a young white
man, a oarpenter, and realizing the
fact that he could never be anything
to her, she turned her property into
cash, ($7,250.) left it to him by will,
and then went and drowned herself.
Referring to the death of the New
York Republic, the Newark Express
says: "Since 1836, when the Express
started, we have seen in this oity over
100 daily journals give up the ghost;
and yet the passion for printing news?
papers and siuking money in them was
never greater than ut present."
