RaiiiBOAd?Grand Mass Mbstinq at
Union, 8. O? Advices from Union
show that that County is all ablaze
over the mass meeting to bo held at
the court honsecd December 12, pro:.
Haj. James B. SteedmaD. one of the
Btaunohest citizens of Union, writes to
Mr. A. O. Kaufman, of Obarleston,
nnder date of 20th inst., as follows:
"At a meeting of the friends of oor
road the day after yon left we agreed
to bring oor people to a vote imme?
diately after oor maBB meetiug, if
possible, and we are now prepared to
advertise just sb ' soon as oor Oonnty
Commissioners arc installed. Or course
nothing can bti done until then, but
we will endeavor to have very little de?
lay iu the matter. We are now vigor?
ously at work getting ready for onr
meeting on Dennmhnr and
spare no pains or exertion to get op
an enthusiasm. We are sending press
ing invitations to Gov. Vance to oome
over and help os. His name and Col.
Memminger's will attract onr citizens
from every corner of the County.
Bring Hon. George I. Cunningham,
Mayor of yonr city, Mr. George W.
Williams and Msj. Theo. G. Barker
with yon. We wish to see those gen?
tlemen here on that important occa?
sion. We are glad yon extended au
invitation to our Charleston friends to
try oar hospitality. A committee is
preparing accommodation for itli who
will oome, and there will be a warm
greeting extended by all."
Union County will vote 8150,000 in
aid of this road. 8he has no County
bonds besides and the County is pros
porous. The bonds will, therefore,
?ell at a very high price. Leading
men from both political parties advo?
cate this subscription. Among others
may be named Hon. T. B Jeter, Gon.
W. H. Wallace, Col. B. H. Uma, Jas.
B. Steedtnau, Oapt. Wm. Munro, Dr.
B F. Bawls, Mr. Jane Mobley and
Hon. Simeon Farrow.
The New Orleans Bulletin records
several instances of brutal attacks oa
colored Conservatives in that city
since the election. A crowd of no
gross assaulted Pompey Stoats with
olnba because he hud voted the Con?
servative ticket. Tbey also fired seve?
ral shots at him. Lewis Henderson,
another colored Conservative, was
chased by six negroes, who threatened
bis life because be bad not gone with
them on election day. Many similar
outrages have been perpetrated, and
as Casey and company still control the
judiciary, there seems to be no redress.
The schooner Water Lilly, from St.
George -for Boston, anchored near
Portland, Monday, the sea breaking
over her, the crew took to boats, one
of whiab capsized, and the captain
and two men were drowned.
The pig iron manufacturers, of Le
bigh Valley, Pa., propose a reduction
in price, and have culled a meeting for
the 10th prox., for that purpose.

Is Stimulation Necessary??This
question is practically answered in tho
atilrmative by thousands of physicians
every day. Sometimes they prescribe
the ordinary forms ot alcohol; some?
times tinctures which are simply infe?
rior alcohol, more or less medicated;
but no small proportion of the faculty
give the preference to Hostotter's Sto?
mach Bitters, as tho most carefully
prepared medicinal stimulant at pre?
sent known. It is impossible fur pre?
judice itself to be biiud to tho marked
success with whioh this extraordinary
I touiu and alterative has been adminis?
tered iu cases of dyspepsia during the
last twenty years. If it were possible
to canvass the whole couutry for cases
in which it had effected a cure of this
' obstinate and agonizing disease, they
would number millions. No wonder,
then, that it baa become a standard
modiaine in every State, city, town
and village in the United States, and
that names, the most distinguished in
literature, art and science, are tho
vouchers for its remurkablo properties.
The immense manufactory nt Pitts?
burgh, with its extensive storehouses,
is the largest establishment of tbe kind
iu this country, and probably in the
world. The amount of manual labor
employed in the preparation of the
Bitters, to say nothing of the steam
driven mauhinery, is greater than that
of any other proprietary medicine es?
tablishment on this continent, and, by
tho blessing of Providence, the bene?
ficial results of this unequalled tonic
'and alterative are oo-exteusive with its
continually increasing sales. It is the
household tonic of the American
people, aud in all human probability
will be so for centuries to come
