street, failed yesterday, their liabilities
amonnting to between $4,000,000 and
$5,000,000. Tbe firm has been in ex

the panic. Their principal business
was with European dealers, and their
failore, consequently, will have little
effect here.
Charles Barnard, a teaaher at a house
of industry in Five Points, was arrested
yesterday, charged with beating James
Randeriok, an Italian boy in the insti?
tution, so severely that death resulted
from the injuries.
Max. Meudell, a young man, about
nineteen years of age, aud a resident
of Amsterdam, New York, was killed

A remarkable fish is said to be found
in great numbers iu the coast rivers of
Alaska. It is about eight inches tang,
transparent, and is the fattest of ail
the finny triho. This fat, however,
has not the oily, rancid taste of other
