On the 16th instant, a negro went to
Mr. Jennings', near Elizabeth City, j
N. O., and asked for water-melons.
Mr. J. gave him Borne apples, but re?
fused the melons. The negro started
to get thorn, when Mr. Jennings got
his gun, whereupon the black rushed
upon him. In thesenffle that ensaod,
the negro was shot in the abdomen
and killed. Mr. J. wenf- to town and
surrendered himself to the authori?
ties. An examination wna made into
the merits of tho case, and he was
honorably discharged. A negro, Who
was an eye-witness to tho*difficulty, in

going. Tho negroes were so enraged
at Mr. J.'s acquittal, that it was fouud
necessary to confine him' temporarily

Seeders' vs. Cincinnati Beer.
THE Cincinnati Qatette makes the asto?
nishing announcement that Cincinnati
beer is no long or pure, but adult-rated with
molasses, sugar of starch, fust 1 oil and the
poisonous Colchicum. The Commissioner
of Agricultnre, iu his report for 1805. says
that Prof. Mapos. of New York, analyzed
the beer Trum a dozen different breweries,
aud found all of it adulterated. Coccnlua I
IndicuB and nnx vomica entered largely j
into its composition.
J. C. SFKGERS guarantees his beer tobe I
pure aud reliable. Ho does not adulterate
it, but brews from the beat barley, malt j
