The Weatheu.?In Europo:the weu
tber has been' extraordinary. "Within
a week of tho summer solstice, Greut
Britain has been visited by damaging
frosts.. In Italy, tho frequency of tor
rible hail storms baa been . noted' as
anomalous. Herald correspondents
state that some .of the old Italian
churches and other magnificent public
edifices have suffered Reverely in these
tomposta, and we have reports of tho
streets .of Milan, being covered with
wounded and dead birds, finding no
escape' from the icy 'elements. ? ?'
There is.a fine, attraction now at Ni?
agara for nervous and sensitive sonls.
Mr. Marlott/ the keeper at the whirl?
pool, at Niagara,- reports that the body |
of a man is in the whirlpool. It oan be |
distinctly seen from tho bank. All ef?
forts to.get the body bave proved un?
successful, ds it is hurled around. One
time hia head and arms were visible;
at another his legs are to be seen. His
pantaloons are tucked in his boots.
The body will probably stay in thol
whirlpool for weeks. It is dressed like |
that of a sailor.
What a commentary upon early mm*
ringen is supplied by the telegraphic
announcement from Fonda, New York
State: "Mrs. Anna Jefferson, fifteen
years of age, committed suicide last
night, by taking arsenic. Tho cause
of the aot was domestic trouble'
Poor ohildl a wife at fifteen and a self
murderer through domestic trouble.
We pity Anna's parents if it was with
their consent that she became a wife.
The corrupt practices of which Mr.
Grant, the English member of Parlia?
ment, has been convicted, consisted
chiefly in ordering too many carpots of
the Kidderminster |manufaoturers dur?
ing the time of his oandidacy in that]
borough. So liberal a patron of local
industry was, of course, deserving of
election, but tbe judges thought it was
too much like bribery and corruption.
Mr. Beeoher's friends appear to be
trying to keep op a bold front, and
they will do the best they can for him.
Mr. Til ton talks strangely, if he is cor?
rectly reported, and the end is not yet.
Mr. Beecher's statement is in keeping
with the mysterious .manner iu which
be and his frieuds 'have heretofore
treated the charges against him.
